Becoming a new parent is a beautiful process, however, it can often be an overwhelming one. As if being responsible for keeping a little human alive 24/7 wasn’t enough, now you have everyone from your great aunt to your brother-in-law offering you their unsolicited ‘expert’ advice, when what you really need is someone to make you a coffee and a good blow out.

Am I right?

While today’s blog does not come with your favorite latte or perfect blow out, it does offer you five tips that will help you survive the first few weeks with your new bundle of joy!

Let’s begin.

#1 The “Miracle" Swaddle

Let’s be real for a second; during the first few months you aren’t going to have a lot of time to do laundry, SO that means you will need a few extra items to tide you over and swaddles are no exception. Not only will these miracle swaddles help your little one settle down and sleep, but they can also serve as a shoulder cover when you need to burp your baby, or as an extra blanket when your kiddo seems a bit cold. As your baby grows you will need to increase bigger swaddles and should buy a variety of sizes to get you through the first few months.

Trust me, you will grow to love swaddling and NO, you cannot only use the ones you stole from the hospital. Those swaddles are for the hospital. They are far too heavy for room temperatures at home and are not made of breathable material. Using the hospital swaddles in a home environment can lead to your baby overheating, which is a big no-no.

#2 Baby Hats

Speaking of keeping your baby warm, you may have noticed that most newborn pictures that your friends share on Insta have their newborn wearing a cute hat. This isn’t just for increased likes, hats help keep your baby warm and ensure that their body temperature is regulated. You will want to pick up a few cute hats for your home collection, but be sure to bring your own hat to the hospital so that you can maximize cuteness in your photo collection.

#3 Coming Home Outfit

Since I mentioned cuteness, let's talk about your baby’s first outfit (also known as a coming home outfit). Despite having the best of intentions, when my daughter was born, I didn’t have time to book a newborn photo session. What I did do was make sure that I had an adorable coming home outfit and keepsake blanket so that the pictures that we took were as cute and as original as possible. One-of-a-kind coming home outfits can be hard to come by, but custom outfits make these pictures that much more special and are a wonderful keepsake.

#4 A very soft, and very warm, blanket

Mamma, you are going to be up all hours of the night taking care of your little one. This can mean some cold nights and some uncomfortable early mornings. Having a warm soft blanket to throw over your shoulders or to keep your legs warm brings you a lot of comfort during the early stages of motherhood. Your little one is warm and cozy, so you should be too!

#5 A Sense of Humor
Your days are going to seem like they never end, but they will. Before you know, your kiddo will be celebrating their first birthday! Be sure to take a moment to laugh, have fun, and enjoy the process. At Bubly Baby, we think laughter is an essential part of parenting and that’s why we have our original Laughter Collection. To help you enjoy the process, remember to smile, and have fun with your little one every day!

Thanks Bubly…… I ordered the custom coming home outfit months ago and it’s a really neat product. How do you cope with the lack of sleep? It’s soooo hard!

Great read! I actually bought a few swaddles (not from you, sorry!!!) and you’re right, so much better than the hospital. The customizable coming home outfits do look awesome! Will give it a try soon.
